“Lie detection” is the popular, but misleading, name for polygraph. In Greek, polygraph means “many writings” and the instrument was so named because it made various ink recordings of a person’s bodily functions. Today, the polygraph is computerized and a person’s physiological responses are recorded on the computer screen.
Actually, the polygraph (lie detector) should be called a “Truth Verifier” since statistics show that in the majority of instances the polygraphist discerns that the individual was truthful.
There are many misconceptions about the polygraph examination. The purpose of this article is to answer questions about the polygraph in a forthright, simple manner. The link here discusses several questions that have been asked many times, not only by persons about to take an examination, but by those merely interested in the subject.
The aim of Toronto Polygraph Services Inc. is to determine the truth. Careful attention must be given to every person being examined. Everyone has the right to be examined with dignity and impartiality. |
